Under the direction of the Staff Program Management Engineer, this position is responsible for performing engineering work related to various phases of project development.

The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.

  • Exercise judgment and initiative in supervising the work of assigned subordinates.
  • Prepare and review letters, memos, agreements, and other written documents required in the development of projects.
  • Oversee the development of local projects and coordinate with local entities.
  • Review and prepare letting and contract documents.
  • Utilize software to develop, track, and monitor projects.
  • Prepare and review project specific Geographic Information System (GIS) data used for programming new projects and developing the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
  • Query, compile, analyze, and create reports related to projects.
  • Prepare and review information used for presentations.

Minimum Requirements

Education and experience: Possession of a current Arkansas license to practice professional engineering OR graduation from an EAC of ABET approved civil engineering curriculum or equivalent as judged by the Arkansas Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Highway related engineering experience. Experience managing and operating complex databases preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective leadership skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to interpret and apply Department and Federal policies and procedures. Ability to read construction plans and specifications preferred.

Licenses, registrations, and certifications: Engineer Intern certification. Valid driver’s license.
