Job Description And Duties

THERE IS ONE VACANCY BEING ADVERTISED ACROSS MULTIPLE COUNTIES. THE INCUMBENT WILL BE HEADQUARTERED IN THE COUNTY NEAREST THE RESIDENCE OF THE SELECTED CANDIDATE. THE COUNTIES ARE: * Contra Costa, Sacramento, or San Diego County. *

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing scientific leadership on respiratory viruses to inform public health decision making and action. The COVID Control Branch (CCB) coordinates and provides guidance on statewide respiratory virus surveillance, epidemiologic investigations, laboratory testing, and on clinical and infection control issues. The Branch works closely with other teams to help produce reports for CDPH leadership and other stakeholders. CCB works closely with local health departments, other state teams and agencies, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on respiratory virus surveillance and response.

The Health Program Specialist II (HPS II) is responsible for coordinating the operations of the Branch. The incumbent provides guidance and facilitates collaboration with Branch management, staff, and other key stakeholders regarding statewide public health initiatives and program development and evaluation activities. Duties include oversight of strategic planning, human resources, and staff development, investigations and analysis, and fiscal and administrative procedures to assure accomplishment of program objectives for the treatment, prevention, and control of respiratory viruses. This role involves investigating barriers to awareness and accurate understanding, learning about existing communications efforts, developing key messages, identifying target audiences, and developing and disseminating communications materials for outreach.

The incumbent works under the direction of the Chief of the COVID Control Branch.
