Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for underrepresented students.
CDU is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop/modify course content under the supervision of the DUPH Chair, including course objectives, visual aids, student instructional handouts and summary material in the assigned MPH course.
- Align course objectives to the MPH Program competencies, program learning outcomes, and CDU
- Advantage Institutional learning outcomes in the syllabi.
- Select and implement course assessments tools that measure student attainment of course objectives, and program and university competencies and learning outcomes.
- Evaluate student attainment of program and university competencies and learning outcomes based on measurable course assessment tools including the use of assessment rubrics.
- Schedule office hours to ensure accessibility to all MPH students, including working adult students.
- Participate in academic advisement of MPH students.
- Use of the CDU’s course management system (Blackboard) as a repository for course documents, assignments, and grades.
- Serve as a professional role model to encourage students to demonstrate a sense of pride in the public health profession and adherence to the profession’s ethics and standards of excellence.
- Participate in faculty development activities including continuing education seminars, workshops, and meetings to keep abreast of current developments within the profession.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties and services as assigned by the DUPH Chair.
Education
- DrPH/PhD in Public Health from a CEPH-accredited program is required.
Licenses/Certifications (if Applicable)
Experience
- Record of successful teaching experience of public health disparities content and assessment of public health competencies.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to use multimedia instructional materials and computer-based educational platforms (Smart Board, Blackboard, and the university course management system (Power Campus).
- Strong computer software skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty, staff and students.
- Demonstrated willingness to perform extra-curricular activities on behalf of the program, college and University.
Compensation
- $7,129 - 3 units, Summer Session
