Acquisitions Editor – Business, Computing, and Career
Goodheart-Willcox Publisher, Experts in Career and Technical Education (CTE) and an employee-owned company, is seeking an
Acquisitions Editor who will focus on portfolio strategy, management, and growth for the Business, Computing, and Career disciplines. This critical role will work collaboratively with other departments to pursue new, innovative and customer-centric products, business models, partnerships and acquisitions that extend our CTE footprint. We welcome candidates from any location in the U.S. to apply. Chicagoland candidates will follow a hybrid schedule, working at least two days per month in our Tinley Park, Illinois office.
Our compensation is market based and takes into account a variety of factors including the candidate’s skill set, experience level, internal equity, and location. For this position, we anticipate the starting salary falling between $90,000 and $110,000 per year. In addition, the company makes a 10% contribution to the Employee Stock Ownership Plan and a 4% matching contribution to the 401(k).
What you’ll do:
- Participate in strategic planning to align acquisitions with the company's publishing objectives and market opportunities.
- Manage investment strategy toward profitability for a portfolio of products.
- Identify and recruit qualified authors in targeted growth areas, building a portfolio of new products through author acquisition, new product development and successful product launch to drive list growth.
- Utilize and gather market and industry research to better understand the problems and needs of potential and existing customers and to inform a long-range product roadmap.
- Manage productive relationships with authors, academic institutions and key industry and credentialing partners.
- Use data and customer driven insights to ideate new ways to solve key teaching and learning challenges for instructors and students.
- Conduct market research to understand the competitive environment, while assessing education, technology, and trends in Business, Computing, and Career disciplines.
- Develop customer-centric product plans (and value propositions, in conjunction with authors and G-W Publishing team to drive the vision for the product.
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of successful sales experience and a minimum of 3 years’ successful product management and acquisitions experience required.
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the year.
- Experience in acquisitions, preferably technical or skill focused disciplines or the Business, Computing, and Career markets.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, collaboration software and digital tools, i.e. Teams, One Note.
- Experience in the college and school channels is a plus.
- 6-7 years in the publishing industry in editorial, sales, and/or marketing is a plus.

- Knowledge of CTE standards and curriculum requirements.
- Experience in digital product development and delivery.
- Ability to interpret and apply data insights to inform product decisions.
- Proficiency in using data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Survey platforms).
