Summary

No two days are the same at ACCON! Our recent projects include: investigation of power station noise in the Outer Hebrides, carrying out noise nuisance complaint investigations, giving evidence in Court with respect to noise from sports activities, assessing a new facility for McClaren, assessing noise and vibration from road and rail sources to proposed dwellings; assessing vibration from an underground limestone mine to proposed dwellings above; and travelling to Bermuda to assess reradiated noise from borehole pumps. We are also leading on a framework contract for Defra in respect of noise and statutory nuisance; reviewing wind farm noise assessments; and investigating potential methods for reducing noise at a MUGA. We also carry out assessments of building acoustics, sound insulation assessment and testing, and expert advice at Planning Inquiry, Court Hearings etc.


We are currently seeking an Acoustic Consultant or Senior Acoustic Consultant. Working as part of our established acoustics team in our Reading Office, the successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to contribute to both the technical and commercial work of our acoustics business within the UK.


Candidates should have:

  • A relevant first degree or post-graduate qualification (e.g. Diploma in Noise & Acoustics);
  • Corporate membership of the Institute of Acoustics;
  • Good technical knowledge and report writing skills;
  • A minimum of three years’ relevant experience; and
  • A full driving license.


The successful candidate will also be able to work independently with minimal supervision or as part of a team, as required.


We maintain a range of noise and vibration measurement instrumentation (when it has not been stolen!!!), embracing state-of-the-art technology. Our work is supported by comprehensive noise modelling (using CadnaA) and prediction capability using our in-house calculation tools.

Salary is dependent on experience. Benefits include a staff pension scheme, annual leave entitlement of 23 days plus Bank Holidays and health insurance. Flexible working arrangements can be discussed. ACCON encourages continuing professional development.
