Accounting Manager Role:
As the Accounting Manager, you will oversee statutory and GAAP reporting processes and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting and compliance. You will play a key role in managing audits, state filings, and reporting across multiple lines of insurance and reinsurance.
Your responsibilities will include reviewing and preparing monthly journal entries and financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. You will prepare or review general ledger account reconciliations and conduct variance analysis to identify and resolve discrepancies. In this role, you will manage the completion of quarterly and annual statutory statements (Blue Books), including all required schedules and exhibits, in accordance with statutory accounting principles (SAP). You will assist in coordinating both GAAP and STAT audits and ensure all statutory reports are submitted on time. Additional duties include supporting the implementation of new regulatory requirements, handling new lines of business and acquisitions, and managing new reinsurance partner transactions.
You will collaborate with state examiners, external auditors, and senior management as needed. Occasionally, you may also provide backup support for daily cash management. You will review the creation of State Pages, State Premium Tax Returns, and other regulatory filings including Federal/State Income Tax Withheld and Unclaimed Property Filings. Staying current with emerging or newly updated NAIC accounting standards is essential. This role offers the opportunity to contribute ideas that enhance internal procedures and overall operational efficiency.
Accounting Manager Background Profile:
7+ years of recent experience in insurance financial accounting and statutory reporting.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of US statutory insurance and reinsurance accounting and regulatory reporting is essential.
Experience in the preparation and review of life insurance company financial statements on a statutory basis is required, along with GAAP basis reporting.
The ideal candidate is analytical, highly organized, and possesses strong referencing skills for work papers, financial statements, and schedules. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, is expected.
Strong communication and research skills, a collaborative team mindset, and a continuous improvement approach are critical.
Experience managing, supervising, and training accounting team members is necessary, along with the ability to coordinate effectively across departments.
Knowledge of Model Audit Rule compliance is also preferred.
