As part of our finance and operations group, the Accounting and Finance Manager will play a key role in our monthly close process, while also contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and cross-functional support. You’ll work with a small but enthusiastic department that values productive relationships, celebrates wins, and encourages both personal and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Month-End Close Process and Reporting:

  • Manage the month-end close process, including posting general ledger entries and management of artist royalties.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages, including income statements, balance sheets, variance analysis, and executive summaries.
  • Maintain balance sheet detail and variance schedules in accordance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Prepare detailed analysis of all reserve accounts including inventory, royalty, returns, and bad debt.
  • Conduct expense variance and budget versus actual variance analysis.
  • Ensure timely resolution of any reconciling issues.

2. Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist with the annual budgeting process and mid-year re-forecasting.
  • Manage cash flow projections.

3. Financial Analysis:

  • Utilize Dynamics NAV to manage financial data.
  • Use Power BI to create and maintain dashboards and reports for financial analysis.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement.

4. Audit and Compliance:

  • Prepare audit and tax schedules and assist with annual audit and tax engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Finance & Operations to ensure compliance with GAAP and internal financial policies.
  • Manage relationships with banks, insurance brokers, and financial auditors.

5. Process Improvement and Systems Management:

  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial reporting processes, improve systems integration, and enhance reporting automation.
  • Maintain and improve financial accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with special projects and reporting needs such as system upgrades and implementations.

6. Team Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Mentor staff members, providing leadership and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with key stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making and optimize financial processes.


Requirements

  • 6-8 years of experience with accounting for an inventory-based wholesale and/or retail company
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent experience
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP
  • Aptitude working in an ERP system
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (Pivot Tables, X/VLOOKUP, IF/THEN formulas)
  • The ability to multi-task and delegate while staying detail-oriented and highly organized, and to set priorities
  • Strong analytical and judgment skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in improving the systems and processes in the department
  • The capability to communicate needs and difficulties as they arise
  • An interest in developing staff members and contributing to a healthy work environment
  • A genuine enjoyment of accounting work


Hiring Salary Range: $100,000-$115,000. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, an applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is eligible for our profit share plan.

Schedule: Employees at Galison Publishing follow a regular hybrid schedule in our New York City office of at least three (3) in-office days per week and up to five (5) in-office days per week, depending on project and business needs.
