Summary

Description LOCATION This position can be hybrid or in-office at our MIEC main office located in Oakland, CA. POSITION SUMMARY The Accountant II will prepare financial reports to track the company assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. This position also is responsible for assigned external filings related to financial disclosures, taxes, and other matters. COMPENSATION Salary based on experience: * Hiring range (San Francisco Bay Area): $68,291 to $91,055 annually MIEC offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package. BENEFITS * 401(K) + Pension Plan * Health Insurance * Vision and Dental Insurance * Generous Paid Time Off Plans ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Performs general accounting and other related duties in the accounting department, assisting as back up to AP and AR functions, as necessary. * Processes and records monthly journal entries using standard workpaper documentation. * Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and other financial data for internal and external reporting. * Codes invoices, sets up new vendor accounts, reconciles accounts, and helps with monthly close process. * Files required financial and tax forms with federal, state, and local government & regulatory agencies. * Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit. * Strictly maintains confidentiality. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Education: * BA/BS degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field, required. Licenses/Certification: * None required; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred. Experience: * Minimum of five (5) years accounting experience is required with insurance accounting experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES * Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and controls * Highly proficient with ERP and reporting software (Sapiens GL and AP modules and Statutory Annual Statement software a plus). * Intermediate skills in Microsoft 365 software (Excel and Word) or similar software, including experience with Pivots, Conditional Formatting, Vlookups, and other Excel functions) * Detail-oriented, with strong organization and communication skills and proven analytical and reporting skills. * Capable of multi-tasking, prioritizing jobs, and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision. * Ability to work as part of a team and with other departments.
