Summary

Job Title: Academic Advisor Reports to: Principal Exemption Status/Test: Exempt/Administrator in an Educational Establishment Primary Purpose: In conjunction with the Chief Academic Office, advise students and provide guidance in development and completion of each student's personal graduation plan (PGP). Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master's degree in guidance counseling or school administration* preferred Valid Texas school counselor certificate preferred Valid Texas teacher certificate Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of career development Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff Experience: Two years teaching experience Major Responsibilities and Duties: Guidance * Guide individual students to identify a course of study that promotes college and workforce readiness, career placement and advancement, and helps the student make the transition from secondary to post-secondary education. * Work with the Chief Academic Officer to review personal graduation plan (PGP) options with individual students and their parent or guardian and monitor progress toward attainment of goals. Help the student to access and make use of proven educational resources, innovative methods, and other interventions that will accelerate the learning process. * Guide individual students to plan, monitor, and manage the student's own educational and career development including providing information about post-secondary opportunities. * Work with campus admin to create student schedules and review all schedule change requests prior to processing. Assessment * Interpret standardized test results and assessment data to guide students in individual goal setting and planning. * Prepare, organize, and administer academic tests to students in conjunction with the Campus and District Testing Coordinators. Program Management and Administration * Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents. * Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. Other * Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. * Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise assigned counseling aide(s) and clerical employee(s).
