Summary

OVERVIEW: Quincy's World Language Department Head works under the direct supervision of the Quincy High School Principal and the Director of Curriculum and Assessment.

REPORTS TO

The District Director of Curriculum and Assessment for all program philosophy, content, curriculum, and assessment. The Principal at Quincy High School for building mission and goals, coordination, and communication, and serves as a representative on QHS Principal's Leadership Team.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

Provides leadership and guidance to the World Language team at Quincy High School. Observes and evaluates the World Language teachers at Quincy High School. Organizes departmental meetings and oversees curriculum planning. Manages scheduling for department courses and resources to ensure smooth operation each quarter. Assists with student schedules through teacher recommendations and transition meetings between schools and students exiting the program. Strengthens relationships with families and creates opportunities for families to engage in the school community. Creates any related Assessment schedules (including the Seal of Biliteracy) and oversees the testing administration. Collaborates with building administrators and staff to provide necessary accommodations. Organizes and oversees the annual QHS Cultural Fair.

Teaching Responsibilities

Provides World Language instruction to students (Spanish preferred). Prepares, conducts, and delivers motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of second language acquisition and students' varying levels of development. Encourages an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of the students. Utilizes a variety of assessments and uses data in the classroom to monitor students' progress and modify further instruction. Creates, implements, and monitors students throughout all lessons.
