  • Obstacle 1: You Don’t Know Anyone

In the previous two installments of this series, Know Yourself and Know Your Situation, we built a solid internal foundation to begin your career shift. But having a plan is one thing - enacting it is another.

Right now, we’re going to go through a list of potential obstacles and barriers to your career journey - which is something you’ve probably been doing in your head this entire time.

You’re not doing yourself any favors by just naming the issues without planning to deal with them. And you’re really not helping yourself by pretending they don’t exist.

In this blog, we’ll address some common concerns career-changers have and provide tips for how to move through these obstacles to achieve the next stage of your career.

Obstacle 1: You Don’t Know Anyone

If you’re trying to break into a new career path or new field, it can be difficult to rely on your network for help. Generally, we build our contact lists within our current expertise or fields.

But just because you don’t think you know anyone, doesn’t mean you don’t know someone who knows someone. (Read that one more time to make sure you got it.) Your professional network doesn’t just end with your direct connections - every person you know is connected to other people in surprising ways.
