Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:

The Assistant Custodial Supervisor assists with planning, organizing, and overseeing Custodial and Laundry Services operations

for Osawatomie State Hospital. This position provides direct supervision and support to custodial staff to ensure services are

completed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with hospital standards.

The position requires effective verbal, written, and computer-based communication; the ability to interpret and apply information

from a variety of sources; and a professional, cooperative approach when working with staff, patients, visitors, and the public.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Provides direct supervision and daily oversight of assigned Custodial and Laundry Services staff while serving as a working supervisor.
Plans and assigns work, develops schedules, reviews and approves timesheets and leave requests, provides coaching and direction, and completes employee performance evaluations.
Works alongside staff as needed to provide custodial and laundry services, cover vacancies or staffing shortages, and ensure priority areas and essential services are maintained.
Assists with planning, organizing, and coordinating daily custodial and laundry operations throughout patient care, administrative, and support areas.
Provides staff feedback and corrective guidance when deficiencies are identified and assists with reviewing departmental policies and procedures.
Requests or coordinates equipment maintenance as needed, prepares supply requisitions, and works with the Custodial Supervisor, Director of Operations, and applicable committees regarding cleaning agents, equipment, and departmental needs.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience in custodial work.
Preferred Qualifications:

Supervisory or lead worker experience preferred. This position directly supervises staff and should be able to communicate

effectively, organize work assignments, follow policies and procedures, and use basic computer programs. This position is a

working supervisor and requires multiple hours of standing and moving to be able to perform the physical requirements of the

position and maintain a valid driver’s license.

What You'll Do
As Custodial Supervisor, you'll split your time between working with the custodial team and providing day-to-day leadership.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
<ul style="list-style-type: disc;">
<li>Working alongside custodial staff to clean classrooms, offices, residence halls, athletic facilities, and public spaces. </li>
<li>Planning daily work assignments and coordinating custodial coverage across campus. </li>
<li>Training new employees on cleaning procedures, equipment, safety practices, and College standards. </li>
<li>Coaching, mentoring, and supporting custodial staff while fostering a positive team environment. </li>
<li>Conducting building inspections to ensure consistent quality and cleanliness. </li>
<li>Coordinating major cleaning projects, including floor refinishing, carpet cleaning, wall washing, and summer deep-cleaning activities. </li>
<li>Evaluating new custodial products and equipment to improve efficiency and effectiveness. </li>
<li>Maintaining custodial checklists, records, schedules, and performance evaluations. </li>
<li>Collaborating with other Facilities Management staff to support special events and campus operations. </li>
</ul>
This is a leadership position where you'll have a direct impact on the appearance of the campus and the success of your team.

Successful candidates will have:

<li>Experience supervising or leading a custodial, housekeeping, facilities, or similar operations team. </li>

<li>Good judgment, dependability, and a commitment to quality. </li>
<li>A customer-service mindset with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. </li>
<li>The ability to perform the physical requirements of custodial work, including lifting up to approximately 50 pounds and remaining active throughout the workday. </li>
</ul>

Schedule
This is a full-time, 12-month position.
Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional evening, weekend, or overtime work may be required to support campus events, special projects, or operational needs.
