Summary

A California-based workers’ compensation defense firm is hiring multiple Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorneys to join its growing, fully remote team. This is a high-volume, high-impact role representing employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in all aspects of workers’ compensation defense.

Success in this role looks like independently managing a full caseload, driving cases toward efficient resolution, and maintaining strong communication with clients and adjusters. This position is fully remote within California and offers long-term growth opportunities within a collaborative, paperless environment.

Responsibilities

  • Represent employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in all aspects of workers’ compensation defense before the WCAB
  • Manage a full caseload from inception through resolution, ensuring timely and strategic handling of claims
  • Appear at hearings, conferences, depositions, and trials as needed
  • Take and defend depositions, including medical depositions when applicable
  • Draft and argue motions and prepare legal filings under California workers’ compensation law
  • Negotiate settlements and resolve claims efficiently
  • Conduct legal research related to workers’ compensation statutes and case law
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients and adjusters regarding case strategy and status
  • Collaborate with legal assistants and team members to ensure smooth case management

Required (NON-NEGOTIABLE)

• Minimum 1.5+ years of California workers’ compensation defense experience
• Direct experience practicing before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB)
• Active California State Bar license in good standing
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Ability to independently manage a high-volume caseload from inception through resolution
• Experience taking and/or defending depositions; doctor depositions preferred

Qualifications

  • 2 610 years of California workers’ compensation defense experience
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active license with the California State Bar
  • Experience handling depositions; medical deposition experience preferred
  • Trial experience (first or second chair) is a plus
  • Ability to independently manage a high-volume caseload
  • Comfortable working in a fully remote, paperless environment
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Self-starter with a high level of ownership and accountability
  • Interest in long-term growth and potential leadership opportunities is a plus

Benefits:

  • Estimated bonus potential of approximately $13,000 per quarter, or up to $52,000 annually in addition to base salary
