Principal Data Architects bring profound business and technical expertise, focusing on Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, including Data Governance and Compliance. They possess the business acumen to confidently engage in discussions across all stages of the technology adoption cycle, from executive to engineering levels.
As trusted technical advisors for several strategic accounts, Principal Data Architects guide and respectfully challenge clients to maximize the value of their technology investments. They are thought leaders who provide deep business and technical expertise within our cloud focus areas.
These architects actively participate in the sales process, typically in pre-sales, collaborating with Account Executives and Presales Architects to scope projects and provide SME support for Statements of Work. They are also heavily involved in account management.
In addition to client-facing responsibilities, Principal Architects may lead and manage teams of architects and engineers, dedicating approximately 10% of their time to team support and development. They report directly to OpsGuru Engineering Leadership.
Qualifications & Skills
Technical and Consuting
- 10+ years of experience in a relevant Information Technology environment.
- 7+ years of experience delivering Professional Services on major cloud providers (AWS - must; Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure - nice to have), with a focus on at least three of the following:
Large-scale workload migrations (on-prem to cloud, cloud to cloud)
Data platform modernization
Modern, large-scale Lakehouse implementations
Data security, governance, and compliance
Machine learning and/or artificial intelligence implementations.
- Proven ability to deliver presentations to diverse audiences, including CxO, VP, and Director levels.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple complex projects with various stakeholders concurrently.
- Technical Pre-Sales experience, providing strong SME guidance in customer-facing sales and presales conversations.
- Ability to confidently model costs and explain the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of proposed solutions.
- History of budget management, project cost modeling, and resource planning.
- Proven ability to handle customer requests and escalations, effectively and swiftly resolving project challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Technological Exposure:
- Hands-on experience with AWS (Must), Azure/Google Cloud (Nice to have).
- Proficiency in Python for Data Analytics.
- Strong understanding of relational database design, tuning, and migration.
- Experience with Enterprise Data Warehouses.
- Expertise in Data Lakes, Data Pipelines, and ETL processes.
- Experience with Stream & Batch Processing frameworks (e.g.,Spark).
- Proficiency in data modeling for both transactional and analytics purposes.
- Experience with BI Dashboards & Data Visualizations.
- Knowledge of Data Quality gates, Data Lineage, and Data Catalogues.
- Exposure to Machine Learning and MLOps Frameworks (e.g., Sagemaker).
- Exposure to Generative AI and foundational models.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide deep business and technical expertise across all OpsGuru's cloud focus areas.
- Confidently discuss all stages of the technology adoption cycle across multiple technical domains, from executive to developer.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor for assigned accounts.
- Provide thought leadership within the organization and to clients.
- Guide and respectfully challenge clients to maximize the value of their technology inv
- estments.
- Provide oversight to project teams, ensuring technical outcomes align with customer business problems, project budgets, and timelines.
- Collaborate with Engagement Managers to manage project scope and with project teams and customers to manage expectations and delivery quality.
- Participate in the sales process, typically in a pre-sales capacity.
- Work with Account Executives and Presales Architects to scope projects and support the creation of Statements of Work, with significant involvement in account management.
- Potentially act as a people manager for a team of Architects and Engineers, including regular one-on-one meetings, professional development and goal-setting conversations, facilitating communication and feedback, escalating administrative or project issues, and providing recommendations for performance reviews and promotions.
